Excellent (and fun!) post. Thanks for sharing and allowing us to explore Paris with you, especially some parts tourists rarely see (unless perhaps they take a few wrong turns, but then most would be so focused on getting unlost, they'd fail to take in the neighborhood and charm).

oh, and adding the Bill Evans Suicide is Painless cover via grooveshark really helps make sharing moment real! First time I visited Paris (long ago in college) a record store was playing Phil Woods "Musique du Bois" Lp. The sound of Phil's penetrating cover of"the Summer Knows" is still seared in my memory of the spot & experience.

Such a keen eye for angle, detail and atmosphere as usual. One of these days Richard, you're going to "have to" get down to it and write a book. A novel or a travel guide, I don't know but...

And thanks for the Bill Evans tune : I was fiddling with my guitar in front of the screen and it's the first time I can do some sort of acceptable (4 me I mean and my standards are pretty low ;-)) improvisation on a Jazz piece... It was probably made easier by the fact that he constantly returns to the theme but one day if we can I'd love to sit down with you and listen to it again so you can explain how it's organized... I mean I sense the key changes and can follow but I would be absolutely unable to explain either what he's playing... Or what I'm playing for that matter !!

Or was it all improvised when he recorded it ?
